Run those by me again?!?

January 13, 2010 at 19:43 (1)

I hadn’t anticipated revealing the titles of the 4 upcoming books about Mr Crepsley’s past for a while yet, but my publishers are keen to get the information out there, so here we go!! In order, they are as follows (with the UK and USA release dates in brackets after the titles — they release at the same time in both regions).

Book 1 — Birth of a Killer (October 2010).
Book 2 — Ocean of Blood (May 2011).
Book 3 — Palace of the Damned (October 2011).
Book 4 — Brothers to the Death (May 2012).

As you can tell from the titles, they’re lovely, cheery, life-affirming books — NOT!!!!! Let the fevered waiting commence!!

As I told you all on this blog just a short while ago, the titles are VERY new — they only came to me on December 8th!! But as soon as I thought of them, I KNEW they were the right titles for the books, and now find it hard to think of them under any other heading. (Though I must admit I’ll always have a soft spot for the original titles, given that I lived with them for 3 years.) I just finished my latest edit of Ocean of Blood today — it’s one of the gloomiest books I’ve ever written, with a finale that sens a gleeful shiver down my spine every time I come to it!! To a certain extent, all of my books are autobiographical, or at least deal with the way I view and experience the world. My teens to my early 20s were dark, miserable years for me — I was a troubled teenager, unsure of my place in the world, frightened that I would never be able to make it as a writer, shy and slow to adapt to new people or situations. Ocean of Blood is a product of those hard years, as Mr Crepsley undergoes the same sorts of uncertainties and difficulties which plagued me (only he does so in a very different way). It wasn’t an easy book for me to write, and might not be my easiest book to read, but it’s one that means a hell of a lot to me, and I’m hoping it will intrigue and fascinate you guys too — albeit in a dark, twisted way!!!!!

Dude I am epically hyped for Oceans of Blood, seems like I’ll enjoy and relate to it tremendously! You’re the only novelist of whom I own most published books of. : D
Crepsley (The name Quicksilver made me giggle) is a favorite character of mine so I’m ecstatic that he will have his own little series based on his history (I cried when he died and I NEVER cry, it still gets to me T_T). Good luck in your novels!!!!!!!! Bet they will awesome!!!!

Larten was always one of my favourite characters (second only to Mr Tall) and I loved the first book in this series. I’d love to be a writer when I leave school, and although it’s quite an unrealistic dream as so few actually make it as far as Darren Shan has (and I’m nowhere near the level that writers like him are at) I’m going to chase it and maybe one day I’ll have my own book published! Wouldn’t that be something… Darren has always been one of my biggest influences in writing, and I loved the very first book of his I read – Cirque Du Freak. I’m looking forward to the next books in this series just as much as I was for Sons of Destiny or Hell’s Heroes, maybe even more. Keep it up, Shan πŸ˜€
