Stealth meeting!!

September 11, 2009 at 20:07 (1)

I took some of my cousins to Thorpe Park today, a theme park just outside London. We arrived early and joined the line at 09.45, a quarter of an hour before the park opened. One of the guys who had joined the line just ahead of us looked back at me and his face lit up — “Hello, Darren Shan!” he gasped — he had been to a couple of my signings before, and is coming to see me again in Bluewater on October 10th!!! Since we were together in the line, I had a nice chat with him and his friends over the next 10 or so minutes. He seemed gobsmacked that I was going to the same theme park as him, and queueing up with him, but hey, even “celebrities” have to stand in line every now and then!!! I must admit, I was quite chuffed to be recognised — I rarely am in public. It’s one of the nice things about being an author — even if your name is well known, your face usually isn’t. If I was getting spotted every time I went out, it might be a pain, but when it only happens occasionally like this, it’s an absolutel pleasure!!!! I promised the young fan that I’d mention him in my blog, and he vowed to use my message as a screensaver if I did, so…

HI, JASON!!!!!

Now get busy on converting this into a screensaver, and I’ll see you again soon in Bluewater!!!!!

Grand ol’ blogs and cool to know that you get recognised every now and again, but not all the time. Nice. Good that you saw dark hares recently and I like the USA and UK covers for Hell’s Heroes. Looking forward to it. Keep up the good work and write more soon please.

Gosh this makes me so sad! I quit Thorpe Park a few weeks ago, if I’d have known you were going to go….Actually…I might have had a heartattack so it’s probably for the best. Hope you didn’t have to queue for too long, I know it can be nightmarish at the best of times.
